MASKNE IS REAL: ROUTINE & TIPS TO TREAT FACE MASK ACNE
Maskne maybe you’ve heard of it, maybe not. But I can tell you as a sufferer that it is indeed very REAL. What is it and what causes it? Well, maskne is basically acne that is caused by wearing a face mask. Not any face mask (although that is quite possible) but the masks that we are recommended, and should be wearing, to prevent the spread of COVID-19. It is caused in the areas that the mask touches the skin, the combination of sweat, friction, moisture causes the skin to get clogged with nasty bacteria and before you know it, you’ve got some nasty cystic acne and pimples. AND if you’re already acne -prone?! Don’t even get me started!
I was already doing everything that the experts recommend:
DON’T WEAR MAKEUP WHEN WEARING A MASK
WEAR A SOFT COTTON MASK
WASH MASK AFTER EVERY USE
USE AN ACNE TREATMENT
I had also recently started trying a skin supplement and the purging was out of control. We’ll get into that in another post or video. I decided to stop taking it and see how my skin improved as well as returning to some holy grail products. Being mindful of my budget during this time is super important to me and as much as I didn’t want to spend money, my skin was like bitch, help me! So I placed an order at my fave spot to get Biologique Recherche products, Rescue Spa. I purchase my beloved P50V, Complexe Iribiol Serum, and decided to try the Serum Placenta which I’ve been loving.
Another product I use is Differin which contains 0.1% adapalene and is a prescription strength OTC retinol treatment for acne. I use it every other day as a way to preserve the expensive BR products. New to my routine is also the Differin Daily Deep Cleanser with Benzoyl Peroxide and Differin Oil Control Moisturizer with Sunscreen. The Differin Daily Deep Cleanser is very creamy and hydrating and doesn’t over dry my skin. The Differin Oil Control Moisturizer with Sunscreen is also on the creamy side with a lightweight texture that my skin seems to be really liking so far. It has helped control oil, doesn’t clog my pores and I love that it has sun protection which is what I like to look for in moisturizers but also beauty products in general.
To help with skin texture and the hyperpigmentation I picked up the CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol Serum. I am a huge fan of CeraVe products and had been wanting to test this one out for awhile. This serum has 3 essential ceramindes encapsulated retinol, and licorice root extract. I am obsessed with it!! It is so gentle and I love how hydrating it is.
My maskne daytime skincare routine has really been helping treat the existing maskne I had as well as prevent some new ones from forming so I decided to film it for you! I hope that this helps you as much as it has helped me.
